A voice for those who have none
Nature has no voice in the plans that affect it. Each plan seems acceptable on its own — a business park here, a search area there, a little extra nitrogen, a new route. But together that accumulated pressure hollows out the habitat of species, while the map looks unchanged.
Hoeders van de Veluwe is an ecocentric map and knowledge dashboard that makes this cumulative pressure visible and testable — giving the Veluwe a literal voice. An instrument in the movement towards Rights of Nature.
The translation
From a thousand separate plans to one coherent picture
The form: a map & knowledge dashboard. The same Murmur engine stacks the pressures here — nitrogen, noise, desiccation, land take, recreation and tomorrow’s planned interventions — over the habitats of the species that live on the Veluwe. Every layer is traceable to a public source, with its reference date and certainty attached.
Ecocentric, not judging: every species speaks for itself — no target species weighs more heavily than another. The dashboard does not interpret; it makes visible and testable, so an independent council and science can determine the weighting. No one can later hide behind “we didn’t know”.
What it shows
Visible, traceable and connected
Behind the map sits a searchable knowledge base and a knowledge graph. The data stays in your own hands; the underpinning is open and testable.
In practice
Built together with the field
The dashboard grows in collaboration with Hoeders van de Veluwe (Marian Heezen & Paul van Heel) and is building towards an independent Veluwe Nature Council (in formation), which determines the ecological interpretation and the weighting. We are exploring the scientific co-validation — cumulation, critical deposition values, function classification — with Wageningen University (WUR).
A symposium is planned for autumn 2026 for the 21 Veluwe municipalities and the province of Gelderland, on the Rights of the Veluwe. The dashboard is the intended showcase instrument there.
The dashboard runs in closed development at hoedersvandeveluwe.murmurworks.nl — access on request.
The Murmur connection
The same engine, an ecocentric form
Hoeders van de Veluwe comes from the same hand as Murmur and shares the same conviction: from a thousand signals to meaning. Here that conviction takes the form of a voice for nature — with the data sovereign, the underpinning open and the judgement with people and science, not with the system.
Working on nature and the living environment?
An area, a challenge or a movement that would benefit from a voice for nature — cumulative pressure made visible, the underpinning open and the data in your own hands? Then we’d be glad to explore which form fits.
